The seven-year-old Laura is finding it difficult to make new friends after having moved to a new town. Then she finds a star, which has fallen down from the sky. She lovingly mends the little star's leg with a plaster, and so begins a marvellous friendship. Laura realises, though,that the star is fading away on earth and for the love of it, she has to let it go back up into the sky. She manages the difficult separation from the little star with the help from the neighbour's boy Max, with whom she is initially very shy. In him she finds a new friend.
